Fear is a big part of life – no matter your age. But for kids, fear can be especially difficult to face. They are setting off on the great adventure of life, exploring, learning, growing. Even though it is great fun, it can also be intimidating.
What can we do to help our kids face their fears, take chances and open the door to new adventures? We can help them learn that while there is risk involved, there is also great reward. If we aren’t will to try new things, to put ourselves out there, to discover the unknown, then we miss out on so much of life!
Taking chances will help kids build self confidence. They’ll learn things about themselves they didn’t know … and find out that they are capable of more than they ever imagined!
Make sure your kids know that being afraid or anxious about trying something new is normal. And those butterflies in the stomach? Perfectly normal, too. Kids might feel better knowing the fluttering feeling is caused by adrenaline being released, ready to kick in for fight or flight, which can actually help them have the energy and the brain power to face their fear!
Still, trying new things can be frightening even when it is something fun. That’s why at Bricks 4 Kidz® we love to challenge kids in a nurturing, safe environment. They can explore and take chances as they learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. We give kids the opportunity to embrace creativity and take chances as they push their capabilities.
